There are patients who have recurrency of sinusitis after endonasal operations on paranasal sinuses (PNS). The process can be both purulent and polypous.

We conducted a survey to see how effective the «YAMIK» method was when used to treat sinusitis recurrence.

At the moment we have the experience of treating 43 patients (average age 34) who had sinusitis recurrency after endonasal sinus-surgery. The main cause of the recurrency was virus infection. There were 14 patients after infundibulotomy, 18 after endotomy and 11 after pansinusotomy. 26 patients had purulent sinusitis and 17 patients had polypous sinusitis. 36 patients payed a visit to the Rhinocentre within the first week after recurrence, 4 patients after a month and 3 after 3 months.

The «YAMIK» method allows due to controlled pressure to evacuate secretion out of PNS and replace it with a medicinal substance, both the evacuation and the introduction of medicine into sinuses being performed through the sinuses ostia. The «YAMIK» procedure proves much easier right after operation as the sinuses ostia are widened. In the case of purulent process we introduced into PNS an antibiotic solution combined with cortisone. The treatment course included 2 or 3 procedures within 7 days in the cases of purulent sinusitis with those who addressed the clinic on the first week after the recurrence (22 patients), 4 or 5 procedures when the patients came in a month (4 cases). The course comprised 3 or 4 procedures within 10 days with the subsequent procedures once a week during a month in the cases of polypous process.

All the patients with purulent sinusitis recovered completely. In the case of polypous sinusitis reverse development of polyps was stated in 24 cases. 3 patients were subjected to operation. These addressed the Rhinocentre 3 months after recurrence started. Conclusion: «YAMIK» method is highly effective while treating sinusitis recurrence after endonasal sinus-surgery.
