in a II a study 12 patients suffering form polyposis nasi et sinuses were treated by local application of N-chlorotaurine (NCT), a long-lived oxidant produced by stimulated human neutrophilic and eosinophilic granulocytes. Being an endogenous substance, synthetically formed NCT has been demonstrated to we well tolerated by human tissue (eye, urinary bladder) in prevailing clinical trials. In vitro, NCT exerted a rapid killing of different fungal species within human nasal mucus.

Because of the difficulties to get access to the paranasal sinuses using application in form of a spray in case of polyposis of the mucous membranes, we used the newly designed YAMIK catheter for this purpose. No toxic side effects of the treatment with NCT using this system could be observed. The clinical and X-ray results as well as the experiences using the YAMIK catheter are discussed.
